5 Simple Packing Swaps to Help You Travel Light
As I was packing for our upcoming trip I was thinking about how I always feel better when I have less things with me. I definitely hate forgetting items, or feeling unprepared---but, I love traveling light. I also appreciate simple items with a lot of utility. Use these 5 packing swaps to lighten up your luggage. This list is geared towards warmer weather---look for a similar post in the fall for new suggestions.
What you're packing: Hairdryer
What to pack instead: Sea Salt Spray
Don't get me wrong---I love a good blow dry! But, here's the thing...realistically you can do without it (especially if you are going on a beach trip or somewhere warm). Ditch the damaging hair dryer and spritz in some sea salt spray for a natural look. There may even be one available where you are staying so, if you can't live without it---check first!
What you're packing: Heavy heels
What to pack instead: Sandals
Unless you have a pair of heels you have to wear for an event, ditch em'. There are some gorgeous styles of light sandals that you can dress up or down. They lighten up your suitcase without compromising style.
What you're packing: Full coverage foundation
What to pack instead: CC/BB Cream
Especially in warmer weather, avoid full coverage/heavier foundations. I love to use a CC/BB Cream in place of my foundation in the summer. As silly as it sounds, this usually lightens up your makeup bag. My full coverage foundations are in heavier bottles and my CC cream is in a light small tube---space saver!
What you're packing: Full floppy beach hat
What to pack instead: Half beach hat or visor
If you are considering rocking a full floppy beach hat and shoving it into your luggage considering the half hat or visor alternative. First, I love this look. There is something very 50s about it. Second, unless you wear it on the plane your big floppy beach hat is going to get crammed in your suitcase and most likely won't look the same when you get it back out again.
What you're packing: Multiple outfits or clothing items for each day
What to pack instead: Staple items used for multiple looks
When planning your outfits for a trip, consider items that can be worn with several outfits instead of something you can only wear one. I love this black maxi dress with different colored bralettes!
What you're packing: Multiple item outfits
What to pack instead: Summer dress(es)
Consider a summer dress or two to replace the bulky multiple item outfits (pants, shirt, cardigan).
