In the spotlight: Elemis Superfood Cleanse and Day Cream

Hey lovelies, it's been awhile! I'm back with a review of a new product range by Elemis.

Recently, I was sent the Elemis Superfood Facial Wash and Day Cream to try out. I was really excited when these arrived because both the face wash and day cream are vegan and cruelty-free. This means that they contain no animal products or by-products and that Elemis doesn’t use animals to test their products.

First Impressions

The packaging for the Superfood range is green and looks clean, simple, and sophisticated. The scent for both the cleanser and day cream are light, natural, herbal, earthy, and refreshing.

The first product I tried was the face wash. Right off the bat, I noticed the texture and scent. It is a smooth gel/cream formula that has a subtle but nice lather. The scent transports you to a relaxing spa. It is earthy, green, and herbal. I really love the scent and find that it relaxes you a bit. I used the wash both with and without makeup.

When washing my face using solely this cleanser and a full face of makeup, I found that it left some residue of non-waterproof mascara underneath my eyes. This isn’t a deal breaker, but if you are looking for something that removes full coverage makeup, you will want to pair it with a pre-cleanse (oil cleanser). When using it on makeup-free days I found it performed really well. It leaves my skin feeling clean, hydrated, and refreshed.

Next, I tried the Elemis Superfood Day Cream. The product comes in cylinder packaging with a pump. You press down on the pump to dispense the product. I like that the pump provides a hygienic way to use the product instead of scooping it out of a jar. I use about 3-4 pumps of product, smooth it on clean hands, and then apply it to my entire face, massaging it in. Again, this product has a spa-like natural scent that is not overpowering. It smells earthy and natural.

I find that the product sinks into the skin quickly and leaves it feeling moisturized throughout the day. As someone who loves makeup, I can attest to its ability to hold up under products. I give it an A+ in terms of its ability to sit under makeup all day without leaving your face feeling dry or like it is affecting the wear of your other products.

I love using the face wash on a makeup-free Saturday and pairing it with the day cream. My skin always feels refreshed and moisturized after using it.

Overall impressions

I really love this Elemis Superfood range. The products check many boxes for me. First, they are cruelty-free and vegan. Next, the scent of the range is light and natural, which I prefer for my skincare. The product range has great ingredients and I think both the cleanser and day cream perform really well. I think they are standout skincare options in that they are distinct from other options available and you can notice a difference when using them.

My only issue is the price. I think skincare should be an investment, and I treat it as one. The face wash is available for $25 and the day cream is listed at $45. While I don’t find these prices to be outrageous, they are a bit high. I would love to see the face wash listed at $20 and the day cream listed at $35 so it could be more accessible to customers. The face wash lasts a long time, you only need a small amount for a thorough wash. The day cream won’t last as long, but I’m guessing it would last about a month with consistent use.
